A striking vintage West German ceramic vase by Bay Keramik, dating from the mid-century / 1970s era.
Form 70-30, the vase has a tall sculptural profile with a gently pinched neck and is finished in a warm speckled cream glaze. A vivid burnt-orange band wraps around the centre, framed by dramatic raised dark brown/black Fat Lava-style textured glazing.
The contrast between the smooth glossy orange and heavily textured lava glaze gives the piece wonderful depth and is characteristic of the bold experimental ceramics produced in West Germany during this period.
A substantial decorative piece that works beautifully as a standalone statement vase and would make a strong addition to a collection of West German pottery or mid-century European ceramics.
